On the CBS Early Show there was a spot about granite countertops emitting radon gases.  Radon is a “cancer causing natural radioactive gas that you can’t see, smell or taste”. Radon is a leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. Now some experts are claiming that radon gases are being released in possibly toxic amounts by granite and that certain colors of granite emit more gas than others. Seems as though the allegations are raised by makers and distributors of competing products.

Typically homes located on the East coast have testing done for radon especially when there is a basement. This is not a test that is typically performed in California so most real estate agents are unfamiliar with it.

Looks like one more disclosure for buyers check out to allay their concerns.
