It is one of the small town tradtions that families look forward to each year. Ever since 1978 Los Altos has celebrated the beginning of the holiday season with a fabulous hometown parade. Colorful floats and costumed storybook characters, illuminated with thousands of tiny lights, join marching bands down Main street and State street. The final float is Santa Claus coming into town on his sleigh with reindeer. It begins at 7 PM but arrive early enough to get a parking place since this parade has become widely popular throughout the Bay Area.
If it is raining the parade will be postponed until Sunday, December 2. Not sure if it is postponed? Call the Los Altos Police Department (650-947-2770) for the status AFTER 3:00 pm on the day of the parade. Please do not call prior to 3:00 pm!
In the past many families have tried to reserve their favorite viewing places by putting blankets and chairs along the sidewalks early in the morning. Don’t try that this year. The fire department and city fathers are monitoring the hazards.
Look forward to seeing you there.
