If not for the 1906 earthquake, the Country Club neighborhood of Los Altos might be the site of Santa Clara University….if not for Interstate 280, the neighborhood might be part of Los Altos Hills.
Today Los Altos Golf and country Club gives the area its name and a distinctive focal point. The neighborhood is bounded by Magdalena Avenue, Foothill Expressway, I-280, and Permanente Creek, giving it the feel of Los Altos Hills yet the proximity to town.
Today ranch style homes are typical, though you will also find modern mega-houses alongside tiny cottages. There are no tract homes. Streets are narrow and winding with no sidewalks. There are no commercial enterprises. Lot sizes vary greatly from more than an acre to only one-eighth.
